Late Sunday afternoon as my mom and I were driving home from a baby shower in Springville, UT. I said to my mom. "Mom, I am trying to take time off this coming week, do you want to go on a small trip to like Sundance or someplace?" " I assume you don't want to drive all the way to Jackson Hole..." Her initial response was "Oh, I don't want something that expensive..." Then moments later she says, "What if we went to Houston?" LOL! Literally within 24 hours I had booked our plane tickets, hotel, and rental car, and we were headed to Houston on Tuesday afternoon and we stayed until Saturday.
We had a wonderful time driving around to our old stomping grounds and houses, eating at our favorite restaurants, and seeing old friends. It was even fun to stay at the Marriott hotel at the airport and see the flights come in and out.
Favorite Restaurants we went to: Pappasito's, La Madeline, Hillstone (Houstons), Cliffs(a bit of a bust), and Fuddruckers (the power went out and I got locked out of the restaurant, but the food was still yummy!)
On Wednesday while my mom was visiting her friend in The Woodlands, I went to the movies and saw "Where the Crawdad's Sing". I loved the book. The movie was ok, but it was just fun to kind of be a kid by myself enjoying the theater that had only like two other people in it.
Then of course this was the day of the purse fiasco. First, on the way to The Woodlands, my mom thought she had left her purse in the hotel lobby so we had to pull over on the freeway to make sure it was in the back seat. Then she ended up leaving it at her friends house later but her friend had already left the house and even after calling a hundred times was unable to get ahold of her. So we ended up going to dinner at Hillstones and then driving all the way back to the Woodlands to retrieve my mom's purse that night. I also almost left my credit card in several places. We really are a pair.
I also enjoyed spending time each morning on the sunny days at the hotel pool. Where I even made a new friend from Canada who was headed off on a cruise. We sat there talking for so long in the sun, that I got a tan line from my heart necklace.
It was also fun to hear lots of stories from my mom where her and my dad first lived in Houston, and we even passed by their first house. Let's just say they have come a long way!
My mom and I always have such a blast traveling together. So grateful for our wonderful friendship and mother daughter relationship.
As a thank you, my mom sent these gorgeous flowers to my work that I brought home and put on my dinning table.
